An Overview
Meridian Services has been meeting the behavioral health needs of adults, adolescents, and children in East Central Indiana for more than 30 years. Originally incorporated in 1971, and designated a community mental health center in 1976, Meridian Services is a regional, private, not-for-profit behavioral healthcare system offering a range of inpatient and outpatient services. It is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and certified by the Indiana Division of Mental Health and Addictions.
Meridian Services is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors whose members are residents of the communities served. Individuals are provided access to professional and confidential behavioral health, addictions, and supportive services which are necessary and appropriate, and provide positive outcomes.
Services are designed to help those experiencing anxiety and stress disorders, depression, anger control problems, child abuse or neglect, attention deficit disorder and hyperactivity disorders as well as those with a chemical dependency or serious mental illness. Often, persons who come to Meridian Services find that a significant change in their lives occurs with just a few appointments. For those with a more persistent and severe mental illness, specialized programs are offered to help people improve the quality of their lives, their dependence and their self-sufficiency in the community.
Outpatient Counseling
The licensed and certified mental health professionals at Meridian Services provide therapeutic services to individuals and families with a wide variety of problems. Some of the issues that bring people to Meridian include:
Counseling may include individual, family, couples or group counseling as determined by clients and their clinicians to achieve mutually established goals.
Services for Children, Adolescents, and Families
Meridian Services provides a wide array of services to children and families and works closely with other entities in the community including schools, physicians, and juvenile justice system and state agencies. Services range from outpatient individual, family, and group to home-based services which are geared to keeping at-risk families together or reunifying them. In addition, Meridian Services has a System of Care program that coordinates both natural and agency supports in the community for families so that their children are able to stay at home and thrive.
Chemical Dependency Services
Meridian Services offers specialized programs for individuals and families who are experiencing problems due to alcohol or drug abuse. Based on an individual assessment, services are tailored to meet the individual's needs. These community based services may include individual counseling, intensive group counseling, outpatient detoxification, alcohol and drug education, and aftercare services. All services offer assistance to significant others.
Continuing Care
Meridian Services is a primary resource for the care of adults with severe and persistent mental illnesses. Because individuals with these illnesses typically have a variety of needs, Meridian Services has developed a coordinated and through system of treatment, outreach, case management, residential and vocational services, all tailored to each person's life.
Individuals become more independent and self-reliant through individual and group treatment sessions, self-directed activities, classes, and peer discussions.
Meridian Services operates a continuum or programs which can offer a place to live and the level of help and support needed. For persons who need 24 hour supervision, Meridian Services operates residential services and a sub-acute program. For clients who need daily contact, Meridian Services operates an Assertive Community Treatment Program in which case managers assist clients 7 days a week. For those who need less contact, Meridian Services offers assistance which supports independence to people who live in apartments.
Through Case Management Services, clients work with trained professionals who become the helpers, service brokers and advocates to help families and clients navigate the system to meet their needs and receive appropriate services. Case Management Services also are extended to persons who are homeless or about to be homeless and are mentally ill. These occur through the Homeless Project and Drop-In Center.
Meridian Services' Employment Service assists people in obtaining employment. Following a period of training and preparation, clients are helped to secure a job and are provided with the job coaching necessary to assist them in maintaining their employment.
